8. Big Hero 6

“Big Hero 6” is a movie that made college students cry and beg for Baymax toys. Centered on the relationship between Hiro (Ryan Potter) and the lovable and inflatable Baymax (Scott Adsit), “Big Hero 6” is a touching coming-of-age story with a robotic twist. After adopting his brother’s project, Hiro refits Baymax with the help of his new friends, GoGo Tomago (Jamie Chung), Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Fred (T.J. Miller) and Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez). Many features, such as the vibrant animation and diverse cast, make this film fabulous, but it’s the pudgy awkwardness and surprising expressiveness of Baymax that make it one of the best of 2014. Set in the beautifully animated San Fransokyo, the soft white frame of the huggable robot stands out and embodies the themes of compassion and the power of science. Animation brings Baymax to life better than any live action would, although you might still want that Baymax figure afterward.
