Sun God Festival Hits Capacity

Sun God Festival 2013, which took place on May 17 on RIMAC field, reached its full capacity of 23,000 — matching the record-setting attendance of the previous two years.

The festival — organized by A.S. Concerts and Events — featured anticipated acts such as Kendrick Lamar, Porter Robinson, student band Soda Pants and Portugal. the Man on the Sun God and Dance stages.

Aside from the two performance stages, a Midway tent in the center of the field featured performances by a variety of professional and student talent. Midway acts included magician Joe Mystic, comedians Lauren O’Brien and Brian Moote and UCSD dance teams Poreotics and Choreo Cookies.

This year’s festival also featured two new sections, including a lounge sponsored by Red Bull and the “Triton Outfitters Experience” booth adjacent to the Sun God stage.

According to a release on the Sun God website by ASCE Festivals Director Andrea Hsueh, all student wristbands were distributed by 6:23 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, and all graduate, staff, faculty, guest and alumni tickets sold out as well.

Thousands stayed for the performance by Kendrick Lamar, who headlined the dance stage until the festival ended at midnight.

Festival attendees also enjoyed multiple inflatable attractions, including an obstacle course.
