‘Persepolis’ PC Theater April 17, 8 p.m. FREE
The animated diary of a spunky expatriate, ‘Persepolis’ airs out all those childhood memories of the Islamic Revolution. Based on the French graphic novel that made creator Marjane Satrapi a New York Times bestseller and columnist, it follows the boom of religious fundamentalism in the ’80s through precocious eyes ‘mdash; before they were draped in floor-length veils, not long after the fall of Iran’s monarchy in the days of disco. Rufus Wainwright Belly Up Tavern April 30, 9 p.m. $45
While Rufus Wainwright’s ecognizable, hauntingly ducet tenor brings happy tears to the eyes, the introspective hurt-puppy lyrics it carries are an even greater strength. Dipping into French theatrics, songs like ‘Poses’ unveil a red-velvet cabaret: ‘All these poses of classical torture/ Ruined my mind like a snake in the orchard.’ Clearly, they haven’t ruined his achingly good looks.
